I've spent the past 2 days in lecture looking at giant images of vaginas and penises in various stages of dissection.
Here is an example of just one slide I will have to memorize out of about 100 slides for the day. Who ever knew the perineum consisted of so many named structures?

This is what our setup in lab will look like tomorrow for the dissection of the pelvic region:

Kill me now....

On a lighter note, I saw this today and thought it was funny:

So I literally have a box of bones sitting next to my couch that has been there since last Friday. I haven't felt the need to open it. I've seen so much gore over the past few weeks that...I think I'm good. It looks kind of like a tenor sax case. When I was carrying it over to my apartment some random guy on the street asked me if I was a musician and, rather than giving an awkward and long explanation, I just smiled and said, "Yes!"

I skipped class today for the first time. I felt a cold coming on yesterday and figured I wouldn't push myself. It's amazing what 2 extra hours of sleep will do for you. I had so much energy today I walked over to the harbor to grab lunch with a classmate and then went to the gym for nearly an hour. The awesome thing about lectures here is that you don't really have to attend them. In fact, you might even be better off not going to them, since you go over the "video capture" at home for hours until you understand it anyway. While sitting in lecture it just kinda comes at you really fast.

Class is cancelled tomorrow (Friday) and Monday due to massive amounts of people congesting our streets for the Grand Prix. There were literally 5 cops directing traffic for a busy intersection near the hospital.

Today in lab we peeled off layers of fat from the heart of our 91 year-old cadaver who died of cardiac disease. I got a little over-zealous and scraped off a chunk of a very important artery we were supposed to identify. My lab group was a little loopy today and basically just really ready for the long weekend. We spent some time going over the structures in the chest, and I ended up having the word "lingula" stuck in my head for hours, or, more specifically the particular way that the people in my group pronounce it--with a certain inflection in the voice that is reminiscent of how Gollum says "my precious...."

Did I mention that I love med school?

Thursday & Friday were the first two days of orientation at school. The first day consisted of welcome addresses from the faculty, lunch, and some administrative things.

Well, today is move-in day.

!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I'm both terrified & excited. The weekend is already half-over, and this coming Thursday marks the start of my new life as a med student.
